Summary of Position
North Cascades Institute, in conjunction with the US Forest Service,
is seeking a qualified, enthusiastic individual to coordinate the
dissemination of public information in regard to recreation and
current policies / permits, along with maintaining and selling of
retail products related to the the are.
This a seasonal/temporary, non-exempt position; part-time, trial
period from March 1 - June 30 with potential to extend year-round. The
position is based out of the Sedro-Woolley Administrative Office.
North Cascades Institute is a nonprofit educational association that
is contracted with the US Forest Service and the North Cascades
National Park by the operations of seven retail stores within and
adjacent to the National Park and Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie Forest
District. The Sedro-Woolley location holds a unique responsibility
weighted toward public communications along with retail operations.
The employee will have long intervals of time wher they are working
alone, yet at times US Forest employees will be available when needed.
Responsibilities
- Provide excellent customer service
- Familiarity with National Park and National Recreation Area trails
and campgrounds
- Communicate effectively and patiently, especially during busier
periods of time
- Handle sales transactions
- Maintain orderly, attractive appearance of retail area including
timely merchandise displays
Job Duration and Schedule
This position begins March 1st through June 30th on a trail basis
with potential to exctend year round. Preferable availability -
Tuesday through Saturday. Hours of operation are 8 am - 4pm (with half
hour paid lunch break). This opportunity requires a very flexible
commitment. It is primarily "On Call" with no guaranteed hours.

Compensation
This is a seasonal/temporary, part-time, non-exempt position. The
wage is $19.00 per hour.

- Vacation leave - accrued at the rate of .01925 per hour

Benefits are prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week.
